The CHIPSHOP was launched in March 2001 by Chris and Vicki Sell to bring A front view of The ChiPsHoplife to Chris' vision to provide authentic fish & chips and other English food to New Yorkers. As an ex-pat and career chef, Chris was eager to dispel negative perceptions of English cuisine and "have a laugh doing it".
Pleased by the tremendous reception by Park Slope residents and the impressive press coverage for our first shop, we will be expanding the concept to other Brooklyn neighborhoods next year. The concept could also be successfully placed in select urban centers, and malls and airports throughout the USA. Chris' objective is that "when Americans (New Yorkers first, because we must have their blessing) think of good fish & chips they think of the CHIPSHOP".
The CHIPSHOP has been greeted by a tremendous reception by our Park Slope neighbors, and we've received impressive media coverage for a restaurant newcomer including: the New York Times (#1 / #2) , Time Out New York, The Daily News, Restaurant Business News, The Economist, The Times (UK), The Daily Mail (UK), The Brooklyn Paper, BBC Radio 5, WOR Radio, and the Boulder Daily Camera (Vicki's hometown paper).
We are especially proud of receiving the Eating/Drinking award for "Best Fish & Chips in New York" by Time Out Magazine and The Village Voice and also for being voted #1 take out by citysearch.com! |

"The walls are decked out in British memorabilia - the British flag, posters of the Beatles, the Cunard Lines, Pink Floyd, the Sex Pistols and a copy of John Lennon's birth certificate. There's a shelf going 'round the top of the ceiling that holds more memorabilia - commemorative mugs, magazine articles about English royalty and teacups."
