The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is an independent citizens' organization that supports the development of a world-class park along the Brooklyn waterfront through advocacy, fundraising, and innovative programming.
We are a non-profit organization, funded primarily by individuals, foundations and corporations, working together with the community and government to bring Brooklyn Bridge Park to life.
An alliance of more than 60 civic, community, and environmental groups, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy has worked since 1989 to create a 1.3 mile-long park on the Brooklyn waterfront, from the Manhattan Bridge, under the Brooklyn Bridge and south to Atlantic Avenue. The Conservancy united elected officials and community residents in support of the 70-acre Park and worked with the Downtown Brooklyn Waterfront Local Development Corporation to develop a community-created master plan, completed in 2000. In May 2002, Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which created the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation (BBPDC) and provided funding for the design and construction of the Park.
The recently released build plan for the Park captures the site’s industrial and maritime history while creating an urban oasis that invites the public to enjoy a range of settings and activities. Stretching 1.5 miles from Atlantic Avenue to north of the Manhattan Bridge, the Park will offer rolling hills, open plazas, and restored marshland, as well as abundant recreational opportunities with shaded sports fields, open lawns and 10 acres of safe paddling waters. The plan makes innovative use of canals, boardwalks and floating bridges that wind around and above the piers.

There are two sections of the park currently open to the public:
Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park
(Operated by the State)
The Empire Fulton Ferry State Park is the premiere park space on the waterfront, established in 1978 by Governor Carey.
The warehouses which line Water Street are the Empire Stores; and the Tobacco Warehouse, the roofless 2-story structure that opens into the Park.
